Are You Looking for an Indianapolis Plumber?

Thursday, April 14, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing Company - Indianapolis Plumber"Are you looking for an Indianapolis plumber"?  I asked a customer calling in for plumbing service this morning.  It turns out this customer lived and was calling from Chicago!  They had run an internet search inquiry for plumbers and AttaBoy Plumbing came up as an option.  I love the internet...I still am amazed at where technology is today.  When I started plumbing in the early eighties plumbers still ran cast iron and customers used something called the yellow pages to find Indianapolis plumbing companies.  I remember when fax machines came out...that's a blog for another day.  Bottom line: if you are looking for an Indianapolis plumber or plumbing company, AttaBoy Plumbing is your local-family owned hoosier plumbing answer...sorry Chicago.

Tops Among Indianapolis Plumbers

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 by Richard Behney
Buddy the Plumber - AttaBoy Plumbing CompanyOne of our AttaBoy plumbers got a great compliment from one of our Indianapolis customers yesterday.  Our plumbing technician ran into a snag on a job prior to a job they had scheduled a specific time for with our Indianapolis customer.  I called the customer to apologize and explain that their attended plumber was "stuck" on a job and running behind schedule and that I would make their water heater job priority and send the next available plumber.  It really made me smile when I heard our customer's response, "that's okay, I'll wait for my plumber, he's the best in town".  I know that our customers get attached to "their" plumber, and it says a lot to me when customers are willing to "wait".  I'm proud to say that that experience is not unique to that plumbing technician.  AttaBoy plumbers truely are tops among Indianapolis plumbers.

My Carmel Plumber

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing Co.AttaBoy Plumbing won a new Carmel plumbing customer yesterday!  This nice Carmel Indiana resident had been using one of those rooter companies, and when she woke to a leaking water heater yesterday morning she called them to come out to replace it.  She was shocked by their price and was put off by the heavy add-ons sales tactics and so sent them on their way and called AttaBoy Plumbing.  As it turned out, we saved this Carmel plumbing customer over 60%...and for a better water heater with more warranty! Now THAT'S what we at AttaBoy Plumbing call a WIN/WIN...she saved a boat load of money, and we got a great new customer.

Do We Need A Water Softener In Carmel?

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing CompanySunday after church service I was approached by couple at our church who live in Carmel as was asked if they needed a water softener since "Carmel softens the water when they treat it".  Ironically, I received a call Monday morning from a Carmel resident who requesting a water heater check and flush who also asked if she needed a water softener since "Carmel water is softened".  My answer to both was a confident "yes, you need a water softener in Carmel"...well, you don't "need" one, its not like you are going to die if you don't have one...your plumbing fixtures and mechanicals certainly won't last as long.  You see, we in central Indiana have some of the hardest water in the country, that includes Carmel Indiana.  Now, Carmel does treat their water in a manner in which it does reduce (fractionally speaking) the hardness of the water, however, it certainly would not be considered softened...that simply would be an extremely expensive quest for Carmel...I know taxes are high but geezy pete!  So, Carmelites...get that water softener and you will notice a very positive difference in your water quality and plumbing fixtures usefulness life.

I thought you would never ask, yes, AttaBoy Plumbing plumbers are water softener experts.  Call, Click, or Chat now for service today!

Thursday, February 24, 2011 by Richard Behney
As I sit here to write this blog AttaBoy Plumbing Heating and Cooling has three emergency calls being dispatched: a Carmel, Geist, and Broad Ripple basement flooding.  Though I make a living from repairing and replacing sump pump and backup sump pump systems; my heart always aches for those going the the misfortune of their sump pump system failing in one way or another.  I still remember my personal sump pump system failing last year at this time...stepping unto the basement floor and hearing the "sqwish" and seeing my personal family belongings literally floating around the basement...all because I failed to check out my system (and replace my old pump) before the "wet season".  So, don't do as I did and "forget" to head a pending basement flooding problem off.  Call, Click, or Chat AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating and Cooling today and get your sump pump sytem evaluated.

All Water Heaters Are Not Created Equal, Right?

Tuesday, February 22, 2011 by Richard Behney

apples to orangesSaying that all water heaters are the same...like comparing water heaters found in those "big box" do-it-yourself stores to the water heaters supplied by a professional plumbing company like AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating and Cooling is like comparing those little box cars you see in communist Russia with a free-market, American made Ford, Honda, or Toyota...we just aren't comparing apples to apples.  Yes, they both have wheels (the cars that is), a motor, and will get you from Zionsville to Greenwood...but that is just about all they have in common.  So it is with water heaters.  Yes, those water heaters you buy at the big box hardware store will get the water hot...eventually.  But, will cost you more in the long run (really, in the short run) both in cost in operating and maintenence.  So, if it is important to you to have hot water for your family, and in the most efficient and cost effective manner...Call, Click, or Chat AttaBoy Plumbing today!

Plumbing on a Budget

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 by Richard Behney
piggy bankThere is no doubt about, these are cautious if not difficult economic times.  My current life experience tells me that every household is feeling the financial pinch.  And so is AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling.  As the owner, I have had to make difficult cut backs and have worked closely with suppliers so as to continue to meet our customers needs and expectations...a very difficult task the past couple years.  While our competition has raised prices in order to maintain the status quo, AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has been able to lower our prices while continuing to provide excellent service.  Maybe that is why one of our customers called us the plumbers with "Big City Service, at a Small Town Price".  I like that.  I think that customer described AttaBoy perfectly.  So, whether you are in Indianapolis, Fishers, Noblesville, Geist, Carmel, Zionsville, Avon, or Greenwood; have a leaking hot water heater, clogged drain, gas leak, flooded basement, running toilet, or water softener thats just not getting the job done...you will not find a better value than AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling.  Call, Click, or Chat today for service!

Noblesville Tree Roots

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing CompanyI love trees.  In fact, my wife would say I am a tree fanatic.  Every year I like to purchase a new tree for our yard.  I just love sitting on our back patio in the summer watching the sun light dance in the trees, the wind sing through the leaves, and find myself kinda with the trees themselves...see, I am a tree nut.  Maybe you feel somewhat the same way...but, did you know trees are not very friendly to plumbing.  Most sewer stoppages and breaks are caused by tree root damage.  We recently replaced a sewer line for one of our Noblesville customers.  They hadn't had a history of stoppages but all of a sudden their drains started running slow and girgling...a common story.  We were called out on a slow drain call and wound up running the main sewer line with the large rooter machine.  Our plumbing was able to get the main sewer flowing after pulling back three basketball size root balls.  Well, those root balls weren't flushed down the toilet...a tree root system had breached the sewer tile.  This customer had a very mature Maple tree tree that was about ten foot from the sewer line.  Maple tree root systems will grow to three times the size of it's leaf bonnet.  And, tree root systems LOVE to "root out" the rich nutrients found in sewer lines...don't ask me how they know, they just do.  So, as that tree matures in your front yard expect to do some sewer cleaning maintanence...and, eventually have to replace the sewer line once the tree root ball totally breaches the sewer line.

Melting Snow and Basement Flooding

Thursday, February 10, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating and CoolingSump pumps are just not something we think about...but, wish we had when one morning we step off that bottom step and "skwish" unto the basement carpet!  At AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling we get calls asking for help from Geist, Fishers, Carmel, Zionsville, Avon, Greenwood, and Indianapolis customers who relate just that same story all to often.

I have to admit...the same story happened to me and my family last Spring...and I should know better, I'm a plumber for goodness sake!  The good news is, it only take a little bit of preventative attention to keep from experiencing the scenario we just spoke of having to spend a few thousand dollars in restoration costs and emotional hit with loss of valued property and personal effects.  Simply have the sump pump experts of AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling give your sump pump a "check up".  We do that kind of thing often with other things in our lives.  Before the start of the year - and my new get back in shape commitment - I saw a doctor to make sure my body was fine to handle the stress I was going to put on it.  Last summer when I took my family on a vacation out west, before we left I took the family "truckster" to the mechanic to have it check out to make sure it was prepared for the road stress I was going to put on it.  We should think of our sump pumps and sump pump systems in the same way.  They may have been sitting dormant for quite awhile and now, all of a sudden, they are going to get a hard "work out" and put some "miles" on the motor.  And, if your sump pump is not up to the task...SKWISH!

AttaBoy Plumbers are sump pump and back up sump pump system experts and are standing by to insure that you stay dry.

It's raining leaking faucets, sump pumps and water heaters!

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 by Richard Behney
Singing in the RainMy dad had a saying, "learn to love a rainy day".  Well, as an adult I now understand the philosophical meaning of the saying...don't let metaphoric storm clouds, grey skies, and rain bring you down...keep a skip in your giddyup and a smile on your face through good times and bad.  I have tried to do just that in my personal life but I must admit that I "love a rainy day" for a different reason when it comes to AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling.  You see, weather events like storms, snow and rain showers are caused by low barametric atmospheric pressure waves which effects plumbing mechanicals kind of like, in simplistic way, like the moon effects tides.  And to make a long story short, plumbing fixtures like faucets, toilets, and water heaters don't like the pressure changes.  So take for example, water heaters.  If a water heater has some age and wear (we have even seen "new" water heaters effected) the fluctuating barometric pressure can "push" a leak to occur.  It really is amazing...we usually get a "spike" in leaking faucet and water heater calls during and after a rainy day.  Check it out for yourself...are you experiencing a leak of some kind after a cooler, or snowy or rainy day?

So, don't let a rainy day bring you down.  Call, Click, or Chat the experts of AttaBoy today and get that leaking faucet, toilet, or water heater problem service by the guys with a skip in their giddyup and a smile on their face.

Frozen Geist Water Softener

Tuesday, February 8, 2011 by Richard Behney
frozenOK, I don't mean to sound silly...but, water fixtures will freeze when temperatures fall below 32 degrees; and that goes for water softeners too.  AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating and Cooling recieved a call last week from a Geist customer who stated they had a burst water line.  We dispatched a technician within the hour and after arrival and further examination our plumber discovered that the water softener had experienced a rupture.  Their water softener was in a unheated utility area right off the garage (which is not unusual).  What appearently had happened is that the garage door had been left open while the children were outside and cold air was able to reach the water softener...thus freezing the water in the "head" of the water softener causing the fixture to split open at that area.  Normally, the utility area was fine...but, on that occasion, under those circumstances it could not weather the situation.  I call it; when Murphy Jr. hits...just enough to cause a propblem.

AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating and Cooling are water conditioning and softener experts.  Call, Click, or Chat now for service today.

Until then...keep that garage door closed.

Indianapolis Tree Roots

Monday, January 17, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoyPlumbing CompanyJust like a past sin or lie can (and most probably will) catch up with you...I guess, so can tree roots...even if the tree has been removed for over ten years.

AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling last week had what looked like a "standard" sewer line replacement; wide open from the house to the street, not even a bush in sight.  When our plumber dug up the old line he was amuzed to find a live tree root ball entwinded around and in a section of the sewer line causing the Indianapolis sewer drain stoppage.  Just goes to show you...tree roots die hard and will continue to wreak havoc on sewer lines even when the tree is gone.

Plumbers Do Gas

Monday, January 10, 2011 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing Heating and CoolingThis morning I recieved a call from a Zionsville customer who believed they smelled gas at their water heater so they did what most people do and called their appropriate utility company.  The utility company came out, shut their gas off (so no heat for the house), and told them to call a plumber who is certified to test gas lines.  You see, plumbers are the techicians trained and certified to work with natural gas lines and mains on your property, not the utility authority...imagine that.

After performing the needed pressure test, locating the leak, and making the needed repair (in this case replacing a decayed fitting) for minimal cost, this Zionsville customer was able to have the gas utility back out to turn their gas on and were back in hot water...and heat.

Another satisfied AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling customer!

Big City Plumbing Service at a Small Town Price

Wednesday, January 5, 2011 by Richard Behney

AttaBoy Plumbing Heating and Cooling"It's the economy stupid" was the famous presidential campaign line.  Well, from where I stand (and I am willing to bet the same goes for you too), I believe it was most certainly the case in 2010, and I believe will continue to be the case in 2011.  Though I will add that I can hear my young daughter saying "it's not nice to say stupid, Daddy"...Sweetpea, you are right on that count.  The cost of "living" just seems to spiraling out of control.  Laura and I see it with our personal family expenses.  Have you noticed how food costs have "jumped"?  And, we have certainly noticed it with our AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling business expenses; fuel, employee, and material costs have increased between 20%-40% in the last year alone!

Now, as a business owner I am well aware of the juggling act between providing a professional service at a competitive price while at the same time paying for good employees, paying the bills, paying the taxes (!), and making a "fair" profit so that broken equipment can be replaced and so we can stay in business keeping jobs and honoring the "contract" we have made with our customers.  So believe me..."I get it".  What I don't get are the outlandish rates my competition is charging for plumbing, furnace, and air conditioner repairs and replacements.  In just the past three days of the writing of this blog I have spoken with three NEW AttaBoy customers...a woman needing Carmel Plumbing, a woman needing a Broad Ripple Drain Cleaning, and a man needing a Fishers Water Heater, each coming to AttaBoy after experiencing "sticker shock" from that "ABC Service Company, "the old guy who flew a kite in a thunderstorm company", and that "rooter" company.  Each of which were/are charging almost twice as much as AttaBoy Plumbing, Heating & Cooling!

I have worked hard to secure the best products, the best service provided by the best plumbers and technicians...at the BEST price.  That is why AttaBoy customers come to learn and say that in this economy if you still want big city service at a small town price "you better call AttaBoy!"

Carmel Plumbers - Clogged Sump Pump Line

Wednesday, July 28, 2010 by Richard Behney
AttaBoy Plumbing Company received a call last week from a new customer in Carmel, Indiana who was experiencing what they thought was a clogged sump pump drain line.  As it turned out this customer had four sump pumps that were all behaving as if they were clogged.  The sump pumps were running and pumping but no discharge water was coming out.  Our Carmel plumber evaluated this situation and discovered that the customer had just put a new paver patio in.  Consequently, the demo and prep work for the new patio had, unknowingly, damaged the sump pump drain line.

Our AttaBoy Carmel plumber was able to reroute the sump pump drain line, without disturbing the new paver patio, providing a new heavy duty PVC line that dumps into a better, less evasive area for our new Carmel customer.  This senerio is a common occurence as AttaBoy Plumbing Company has had very similiar calls in Fishers, Zionsville, and Indianapols.  So, be careful when disturbing the ground in and around your home, it may be more than dirt that you will have to shovel out and always call your local plumber, AttaBoy Plumbing Company for all your plumbing repairs!  317-522-0591

Carmel Clogged Drain, Oh My!

Friday, July 23, 2010 by Richard Behney

We received a Carmel clogged drain call yesterday.  This was a first time caller who, of course, called the Carmel clogged drain experts, AttaBoy Plumbing Company.

I took the call myself from this potential new Carmel AttaBoy Plumbing Company customer.  The customer stated that she had "stuff" coming up in her Carmel basement floor drain and derived that her "hole in the basement floor needed to be unclogged" and wanted a price to unclog her Carmel Clogged Drain.  I explained that seeing the stuff come up in the basement drain does not necesarilly mean that she has a basement clogged drain, it could be another drain that is clogged, even her sewer drain line could be having issues.  I further explained to best diagnose the situation it would be best to send out one of our Carmel plumbers to check it out.

Well, as it turned out she did not have a clogged floor drain, and she did not have the worse case scenerio of a clogged main sewer drain.  This Carmel customer had a clogged laundry drain which was backing up into the floor drain.  Another clog-free and satisfied AttaBoy Plumbing Company customer.  So, if you are in the Carmel area and experience a clogged drain, call the Carmel Clogged Drain experts at AttaBoy Plumbing Company for relief. 317-708-6008
